Definition

Under direction, sells merchandise from a canteen or similar shop at a public institution; does other related duties.

Examples of work

  • Sells merchandise from a canteen or portable cart in institution wards.
  • Maintains records of sales.
  • Replenishes stock.
  • Maintains clean and orderly shelves, carts or counters.
  • Operates cash register.
  • Receives monies in payments for goods purchased.
  • Makes change.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Ability to make change.
  • Ability to maintain clean and orderly work station.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with associates and others.
  • Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
