Examples of work

  • Provides technical expertise and assistance to assigned personnel responsible for the maintenance of authority run housing units, including, but not limited to janitorial services, heating systems, carpentry and tile work, plumbing, electrical work, air pollution control, and environmental programs.
  • Recommends procedures consistent with efficient and economical trade practices.
  • Provides technical assistance in estimating costs for various maintenance items.
  • The preparation of plans and specifications.
  • The preparation of estimates for budget purposes.
  • The review of sample material and other related items.
  • Trains and supervises subordinate central maintenance staff as well as supervising assigned inspectors.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.

Experience

Three (3) years of supervisory experience in work involving a variety of building construction, maintenance, and repair tasks.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of the problems, procedures and methods used in inspecting, analyzing, and determining the building repair and maintenance work to be done, and the materials needed.
  • Knowledge of the problems involved in establishing, maintaining, and developing effective work procedures.
  • Knowledge of obtaining, storing, safeguarding, distributing, and properly using needed equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Knowledge of keeping needed records.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to plan, develop, organize, install, analyze and supervise building maintenance and repair functions.
  • Ability to give suitable assignments and instructions.
  • Ability to direct the establishment and maintenance of suitable records and files.
  • Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
