Definition
Under direction, coordinates activities of a dental health program; encourages and promotes dental care of school children; determines eligibility of dentally indigent children; does other related duties as required.
Examples of work
- Coordinates a dental heath service program.
- Distributes literature to children on the care of teeth and teaches elementary dental health including fundamentals of nutrition.
- Arranges daily schedule for attendance of school children at a dental clinic and/or with a private dentist.
- Arranges transportation of school children to and from a dental clinic and/or a private dental office.
- Receives and classifies applications, and selects applicants for dental services according to prescribed rules.
- Inventories, orders, receives, and arranges for storage of dental supplies and equipment.
- Ensures that the clinic office is maintained in a clean, orderly condition.
- Prepares reports and maintains essential records and files.
- Prepares literature pertaining to activities of the dental health clinic.
- Distributes printed material to local schools and contacts newspapers, radio stations, and other organizations to publicize the observance of Dental Health Week.
- Distributes notices and attends all Dental Health Committee meetings, and provides reports on clinic progress at theses meetings and answers any questions pertaining to clinic activities and the dental health program.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
Three (3) years of experience in planning, organizing, coordinating, and administering a program of dental health services.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Ability to give instructions to children and adult patients in a clear, understandable manner.
- Ability to teach and illustrate habits essential to dental health.
- Ability to motivate or inspire cooperation between individuals and/or groups to follow through to objectives.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with lay and professional groups and individuals.
- Ability to prepare and maintain essential reports and records.
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
