Examples of work
- Receives, reviews, arranges, and prepares records of varied types for the microfilming process.
- Operates the flat bed type and/or the automatic types of microfilm machine and the accompanying microfilm cameras, and performs any adjustments that may be required by the nature and type of material being filmed.
- Using a film viewer, inspects film in order to insure the accuracy of the filming and to pick out defective or unsatisfactory images for retakes.
- Assembles filmed documents which have been found to be defective or unsatisfactory, refilms these, and splices retakes in their proper order.
- Gives assistance to visitors who wish to view microfilmed records.
- Maintains a continuing record of all microfilmed material under the supervision of the department.
- Processes request for records in accordance with regulations.
- Makes the required minor adjustments to the microfilming equipment and sees that it is in good working order.
- Prepares progress and other reports.
- Maintains essential records and files.
- May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
License
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and adjustment of the flat bed type and/or the automatic type of microfilm machine, including the variation of reduction ratios and the adjustment of light intensities and exposures for the colors and/or textures of paper to be filmed.
- Knowledge of the loading, operations, and adjustment of microfilm cameras.
- Knowledge of the symptoms of machine failure which may result in film spoilage and the repetition of errors.
- Knowledge of the review, arranging, and preparation of varied types of records and documents for the microfilming processes.
- Ability to perform varied types of microfilming, including problems which necessitate the use of judgment and discrimination.
- Ability to use a microfilm viewer, to inspect and check the accuracy of filmed material, and to splice retakes and place them in the proper order.
- Ability to maintain a continuing record of the varied microfilm projects under the supervision of the department.
- Ability to give assistance to callers making use of the microfilmed materials available in the department files.
- Ability to prepare clear, sound, and accurate reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Ability to do clerical and related work requiring close attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain the essential records and files.
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
