Examples of work

  • Escorts attorneys, claimants and other persons having business with the Court to the proper location.
  • Identifies those individuals who are to be referred for special services, such as medical examinations, and insures they appear as scheduled.
  • Questions persons visiting the Court, provides them with required information, or refers them to office staff who can provide the necessary information.
  • Coordinates court room assignments and supervises the preparation court rooms for emergency case hearings.
  • Takes action to secure police assistance to prevent theft, vandalism, disorder and/or damage or loss to property and equipment.
  • Gives assistance if accidents or illnesses occur; in emergencies summons physicians from examining rooms.
  • Makes periodic inspections and turns found articles of value over to the custody of the supervisory officer.
  • Escorts disorderly persons from the premises with a minimum of disturbance, calling upon municipal police as may be required.
  • Acquaints office staff and other employees with security procedures.
  • Maintains custody of, keeps records regarding and returns papers delivered to the court.

  • One year of experience in court room procedures or in the flow of individuals in a private or public installation.

License

Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Ability to acquire considerable knowledge of Worker's Compensation court procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods effective in dealing with persons of varied types in order to maintain order in the court rooms.
  • Ability to acquire considerable knowledge of Division rules, and regulations as they relate to the movement and directing of persons who enter the premises.
  • Ability to meet and deal courteously and effectively with varied types or persons, some of whom may be antagonistic.
  • Ability to conduct attorneys, claimants and other persons having business with the court to the proper courtroom, office or medical examining room.
  • Ability to coordinate court room assignments and supervise Court Attendants as assigned and the physical preparation of court rooms for emergency case hearings.
  • Ability to take the action required to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, disorder and/or damage or loss to property and equipment.
  • Ability to give assistance when accidents or illnesses occur.
  • Ability to make periodic inspections and, when articles of value are found, to turn these over to custody of the supervisory officer.
  • Ability to escort disorderly persons from the premises with a minimum of disturbance and to summon police assistance as required.
  • Ability to acquaint office staff and other employees with security procedures.
  • Ability to maintain custody of papers delivered to the court and pertinent records, the daily hearing diary and hearing control sheets.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
