Definition
Under general supervision,does miscellaneous maintenance work in a marina terminal and operates a small launch, skiff or other boat requiring no crew; does related work as required.
Examples of work
Maintains, repairs, cleans and paints buildings, docks, and other structures in and about a marine terminal. Performs general grounds care work. Performs minor electrical and plumbing repairs. Operates a small motor boat, launch or skiff. Maintains agency boats. Assists in loading and unloading barges. Keeps records. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
Experience
One (1) year of experience in general maintenance and repair work which shall have included six months of experience in the handling of small boats. Appointees must possess a valid motorboat operator's license issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of the procedures, equipment, materials and supplies used in maintaining small boats. Knowledge of general maintenance work in a marina terminal. Knowledge of the methods using in operating small launches, kiffs and other boats safely. Ability to perform basic grounds maintenance and simple repair buildings, docks and other marine terminal structures. Ability to service and maintain small boats. Ability to maintain required records of work completed, time spent and materials used. Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recordings and information systems used by the agency, office or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
