DIRECTOR OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY & PREPAREDNESS

New Jersey stood up a dedicated homeland security office by executive order in 2006, pulling counterterrorism, critical infrastructure protection and preparedness planning into one place and giving it the job of coordinating them across State and local agencies. The cybersecurity cell that issues threat advisories to New Jersey governments and businesses sits inside it.

The director is appointed by the Governor, serves in the cabinet, and chairs the Domestic Security Preparedness Task Force the Legislature created after 2001. It is not a position anyone competes for, and no specification is published.
