Definition
Under the supervision of an Employment Supervisor and/or the lead of a Senior Interviewer, assists the interviewing team with matching jobseekers to job openings, entering customer information into the One-Stop case management system, providing job search and general information to customers, and facilitating recruitment events; does related work as required.
Examples of work
- Assists customers in the public access area of a One-Stop Career Center with using computers to access job search tools, build a resume, identify suitable job openings, and complete online applications.
- Assists Interviewers with collecting and recording customer information.
- Contacts customers to advise them of appropriate workshops, remind them of scheduled appointments, and inform them of potential job opportunities.
- Assists higher level professionals including interviewers, employment counselors, and business representatives with identifying and contacting pools of candidates for recruitment events, job openings, Opportunity Partnership Grants, and on-demand training information sessions.
- Schedules recruitment events, ensures jobseekers and employers have been notified, and follows up with employers and jobseekers to gauge the success of events in placing jobseekers into employment.
- Demonstrates customer service skills as a member of the front desk triage team by appropriately welcoming, responding to questions and directing customers entering the One-Stop to services.
- Provides office support by ensuring adequate supplies needed to delivery jobseeker services such as customer handouts are available and that copiers, fax machines, and printers used by customers are replenished as needed.
- As required, contact employers to obtain additional information about employment opportunities/openings or to confirm other required information.
- Explains forms, procedures or registration requirements to clients as necessary.
- Verifies, corrects and interprets information reported by jobseekers, reports from central office or office staff.
- Develops understanding and knowledge of job search assistance process from on-the-job training and professional development opportunities.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Education
Completion of 60 semester hours at an accredited college or university.
Experience
Two (2) years of technical clerical experience in a public or private agency in work involving interviewing, assisting customers with interviewing skills, or in accurately obtaining and recording occupational/employment information.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of industry and occupation codes, and other reference material after a period of training.
- Knowledge of modern office routines and their practical application.
- Ability to acquire knowledge of local office policies and procedures pertaining to the recordkeeping, verification, and follow-up of job orders, and the recording of information on Employment Service application card.
- Ability to acquire knowledge of the types, purposes, administration, and scoring of the various tests given by the Division.
- Ability to acquire knowledge of the eligibility criteria for program under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
- Ability to acquire knowledge of the various mandatory registration programs in which Employment Service participates.
- Ability to acquire knowledge about the local office procedures pertaining to the maintenance of records and files.
- Ability to apply the Dictionary of Occupational Titles to the assignment of occupational tiles and codes to job orders and applications.
- Ability to take and record job orders accurately and according to procedures.
- Ability to update and verify employer information on job order forms based on discussions and referral experience.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employers, applicants, and co-workers.
- Ability to demonstrate test procedures, administer and score the aptitude tests given by the Division.
- Ability to deal effectively with representative of employers or other agencies.
- Ability to maintain essential records and files.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
