Examples of work

  • Under the direction, is responsible for the processing of arbitrations, representation election proceedings and mediation notices.
  • Gives appropriate assignments and instructions to Board's clerical staff and supervises their work.
  • Supervises the work operations and/or functional programs and has responsibility for employee evaluations and for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting and/or disciplining of employees.
  • Prepares correspondence pertaining to arbitrations, elections and mediations.
  • Prepares statistics for annual, monthly, work progress, and other reports as required.
  • Is responsible for maintaining entire filing system of essential records for arbitrations, elections, mediations and other related work.
  • Is responsible for the coordination and preparation of work pertinent to the prior notification of the parties as to date, time and place of hearings.

  • May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
  • <b>REQUIREMENTS
  • EXPERIENCE </b> Four years of experience in clerical work, two years of which shall have included planning the work of clerical employees.

License

Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Ability to acquire considerable knowledge of modern office methods, practices, routines, machines and equipment and of the functions, established regulations, policies and procedures of the Board of Mediation.
  • Thorough knowledge of the problems encountered in planning a clerical program in organizing assigned clerical work, and in developing effective work procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern filing systems.
  • Ability to apply procedures established for the receiving and filing of arbitration requests, Taft- Hartley notices, and elections.
  • Ability to apply Consent Election procedures, regulations, etc. to work of the Board.
  • Ability to acquire thorough knowledge of Rules and Regulations for Arbitration established by New Jersey State Board of Mediation.
  • Ability to understand and apply the Board's rules for the procedure and implementation of Taft
  • Ability to develop schedules and material for arbitration proceedings for Board of Mediation, i.e., the provision of hearings rooms for arbitration and mediation hearing (on occasion for American Arbitration Association, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, and other agencies).
  • Ability to give suitable assignments and instructions to clerical employees and supervise the performance of their work.
  • Ability to investigate and where possible adjust complaints.
  • Ability to prepare and supervise the preparation of statistical, work progress and other reports as required.
  • Ability to supervise the maintenance of essential records and files.
  • Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
