Definition
Under direction of a supervisory official in a state department, does the work involved in maintaining films, slides, tapes, and audio- visual equipment, and assists with the installation and removal of exhibits; does related work as required.
Examples of work
- Maintains the department's film and audio-visual equipment library.
- Records, ships, and receives orders for films, slides, tapes, and audio-visual equipment.
- Cleans, splices, and replaces footage on department films and tapes.
- Maintains liaison with other departments in relation to their function of handling films and tapes.
- Operates audio-visual equipment for conferences and previews.
- Trains department personnel in the use of audio-visual equipment.
- Installs and removes the department's exhibits at various functions throughout the state as required.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
One (1) year of experience in work involving the operation and maintenance of audio-visual equipment.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of the operation, adjustment, repair, maintenance, and potentialities of the following: 16mm sound film projectors; 35mm manual and automatic slide projectors; 35mm filmstrip projectors; overhead and opaque projectors, screens, tape recorders, microphones, and recording devices; and transparency machines and film splicers.
- Knowledge of the cleaning, splicing, and footage replacement of films and tapes.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with department exhibits and programs requiring audio-visual aids after a period of training.
- Ability to establish inventory control of lamp, tapes, and parts replacement.
- Ability to train professional staff in the use of basic audio- visual equipment.
- Ability to maintain established work schedules and to handle rush and emergency situations.
- Ability to prepare periodic reports of time and materials used and production.
- Ability to organize assigned work and to supervise fellow employees in the installation and dismantling of these exhibits.
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
