Definition
Under the supervision of a faculty department chairperson, assists in the installation of, performs maintenance and repair on and establishes regular servicing and repair schedules for equipment used in the Industrial Education and Technology, Home Economics and Art laboratories; does other related duties. NOTE: The examples of work for this title are for illustrative purposes only. A particular position using this title may not perform all duties listed in this job specification. Examples of work
Performs maintenance and repair work on equipment, machines and devices including milling machines, lathes, drillpresses band and circular saws, sewing machines, stoves, looms, kilns and pugmills. Builds parts for laboratory equipment to accommodate the specific needs of faculty or when needed parts are not available. Establishes maintenance and repair schedules for all equipment and machines, insuring that such equipment is ready for use by students. Trains faculty and students in proper operating and safety techniques to keep equipment operable and to minimize hazardous conditions. Trains and assigns student workers who perform routine equipment maintenance. Prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment. Maintains records and files.
Experience
Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of machine tools and equipment including milling machines, lathes, drill presses, and/or other electrical or mechanical equipment.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in NJ only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of the repair, maintenance and operation of equipment and machines including milling machines, lathes drill presses, bond and circular saw, sewing machines stoves, looms, kilns and pug mills. Knowledge of safety measures to be taken in the operation and adjustment of laboratory equipment. Ability to operate, maintain and repair various types of machines and equipment including milling machines, lathes, drill presses, band and circular saws, sewing machines, stoves, looms, kilns, and pug mills. Ability to establish regular maintenance and repair schedules for all equipment and machines in the Industrial Education and Technology, Home Economics and Art laboratories. Ability to instruct faculty and students in machine operation and safety techniques. Ability to requisition needed supplies and equipment. Ability to maintain essential records and files. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
