N.J.S.A. 11A:8-3 Alternatives to layoff

Title 11A · Chapter 8. Employee Layoffs

In plain language

Voluntary reduced work time, and anything like it, is authorised here rather than required. The Commission may adopt rules on reduced hours or other alternatives to layoff, in consultation with the advisory committee set up under 11A:2-11. One sentence at the end is the important one for anyone deciding whether to take part: participating does not affect special reemployment or retention rights. An employee who volunteers for reduced hours to help avoid a layoff does not give up their place in line if one happens anyway.

Current through the close of the 221st Legislature (L. 2025, c. 346). What that means

Enacted by L. 1986, c. 112, effective September 25, 1986. Last amended by L. 2008, c. 29, effective June 30, 2008.

A New Jersey statute changes only when the Legislature amends it, so a section untouched since its last amendment is settled rather than out of date.
