ATTORNEY 3

Attorney titles cover lawyers employed directly by a State department or agency, advising on the programmes it runs and representing it in administrative proceedings. This is distinct from a Deputy Attorney General, who works for the Attorney General and appears for the State in court.

Every level requires admission to the New Jersey bar, and the numbered levels rise with the complexity of matters handled and whether the holder supervises other lawyers. Where these codes carry no specification, appointment runs through the employing agency's counsel rather than through an examination.
