Examples of work
- Renders legal advice and representation to state departments and other entities as directed to ensure that the bonafide interests of the State of New Jersey and the public served are protected.
- Prosecutes civil matters, as assigned, to produce results which are consistent with applicable law and with the Constitution of the United States. Defends civil matters as assigned and prepares all legal documents required.
- Prepares formal and informal opinion, pleadings, trial and appellate briefs, legislative and legal memoranda, proposed legislation, and revisions to various administrative publications to provide the State and its publics with information deemed vital to effective/efficient accomplishment of the State's business.
- Conducts, or assists in the conduct of legal research and/or investigations to develop data/information to be utilized in the accomplishment of special projects. Performs related tasks necessary to accomplish routine projects.
- Conducts liaison activities with members of various agencies and government jurisdictions, as directed, on matters of a legal and/or investigative nature to develop inputs/outputs designed to facilitate attainment of program goals.
- Prepares correspondence and reports to apprise officials and members of the various publics served of conditions, progress and accomplishments in areas of concern, and to avail Department officials with information on which the formulation and/or expansion of plans and programs may be based.
- Coordinates the work activities of staff assigned or detailed to area of responsibility as directed.
- Reviews outputs, and initiates actions to insure adherence to applicable policy, procedures, and standards.
- May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.

- Five years of experience as a Deputy Attorney General.
License
Admission to practice as an Attorney at Law in the State of New Jersey.
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the structure and content of formal and informal legal documents and administrative publications.
- Considerable knowledge of the formulation and preparation of informative reports and correspondence.
- Basic knowledge of state and federal administrative law and practices, and familiarity with federal court procedures and practices as they relate to state departments and other state entities.
- Basic knowledge of the procedures utilized in the preparation and prosecution of civil cases.
- Basic knowledge of the principles of investigation and administration.
- Ability to plan, coordinate and prosecute civil matters.
- Ability to conduct legal research and/or investigations in completing assigned projects.
- Ability to coordinate and review outputs of staff assigned to area of responsibility.
- Ability to research and write logical, well-constructed reports and correspondence.
- Ability to interface effectively with various government jurisdictions, agencies and other affected publics.
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
