Definition

Under general direction of a supervisory official, supervises the activities of a receiving or distribution warehouse and storeroom supplying electrical, maintenance, and equipment parts and materials in a state department, institution, agency, college, or school; does other related duties. Examples of work

Supervises the work programs and staff of a warehouse and storeroom located at a designated facility. Provides assignment, instruction, and supervision to subordinate employees engaged in requisitioning, storing, repairing, and supplying electrical maintenance and equipment parts, and materials. Establishes and maintains proper storage methods, and standards for the efficient use of existing storage space. Develops work schedules and methods. Establishes and maintains an inventory system. Supervises the preparation of requisitions for replenishment of stock. Plans, organizes, and assigns the work of the organizational unit and evaluates employee performance and conduct, enabling the effective recommendation of the hiring, firing, promoting, and disciplining of subordinates. Evaluates the usability, adaptation, or obsolescence of varied types of stock, and the interchangeability of parts. Oversees the safe storage of stock and equipment in all assigned facilities. Supervises the checking of requisitions and purchase orders; maintains records of materials received and method of shipment. Investigates and supervises the investigation of complaints about stock and equipment. Prepares correspondence to dealers and vendors. Prepares accurate and informative reports of the department's warehouse program containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Supervises the maintenance of essential records, inventories, and files. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Requirements

E XPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience in the receipt, storage and distribution of electrical, maintenance, and/or mechanical equipment and parts, three (3) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

License

Appointees must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey. NOTE: The responsibility for ensuring that employees possess the required motor vehicle license, commensurate with the class and type of vehicle they operate, rests with the Appointing Authority.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Knowledge of the methods used to obtain, store, safeguard and distribute equipment, materials, parts and supplies. Knowledge of supervisory techniques. Knowledge of inventory methods and techniques. Knowledge of the problems encountered in warehouse operations. Ability to supervise the work involved in the receipt, storage and distribution of electrical, maintenance and mechanical equipment parts. Ability to provide assignments and instruction to assigned staff and supervise their work performance. Ability to establish and maintain an inventory system. Ability to estimate stock and equipment needs. Ability to investigate and resolve complaints. Ability to establish and maintain proper storage methods, and standards for the efficient use of storage space. Ability to supervise the checking and recording of deliveries. Ability to oversee the proper repair, maintenance and storage of mechanical equipment. Ability to prepare correspondence. Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports of warehouse programs containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Ability to supervise the establishment and maintenance of essential records and files. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
