Definition

Under the direction of a Supervisory Officer, supervises the work, programs, and activities of the Central Warehouse including receiving, inventorying, storing, and distributing various supplies, materials, surplus furniture and relocating employees; does related work as required.

  • Assigns, instructs and supervise subordinate employees engaged in requisitions, purchasing and inventorying various supplies and materials.
  • Establishes and supervises a system to insure that all deliveries are made and received.
  • Establishes and supervises the proper storage and handling of all stock items.
  • Determines the items and quantities to be acquired under the direct purchase system for Central Warehouse.
  • Establishes and supervises the maintenance of a perpetual inventory system.
  • Supervises actions to dispose of obsolete stocks in the most economical manner.
  • Determines the usability, adaptation, of all various types of stock.
  • Establishes work guidelines for all Central Warehouse staff.
  • Supervises the work operations and/or function programs and has responsibility for employee evaluations and for recommendation the hiring, firing, promotion, demoting and/or discipline of employees.
  • Interviews salespersons and vendors on items needed to effectively maintain Central Warehouse.
  • Supervises the checking of requisitions and purchase orders and maintains daily records of all materials received.
  • Supervises the establishment and maintenance of essential records, inventory and files.

Requirements

Six (6) years of experience in warehouse and/or stockroom work involving: determining stock levels, requisitioning, purchasing of materials and supplies and/or receiving, inventorying, storing and distributing of various office equipment, records and files, office supplies and materials. Three (3) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

License

Appointee will be required to possess a valid driver's license.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Knowledge of methods of receiving, storing, inventorying and distributing of materials and supplies. Knowledge of the problems which arise in establishing and maintaining a perpetual inventory system of replenishing stock and disposing of obsolete items. Ability to organize assigned warehousing and related work, analyze general and specific purchase and storage problems and develop appropriate work method for Central Warehouse in which department materials and supplies are stored. Ability to assign employees of varied titles and grades and supervise the performance of their work. Ability to supervise warehouse operations and to establish and maintain a perpetual inventory system. Ability to supervise the receiving and disturbing of all deliveries. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manner recording and information systems used by the agency. Ability to insure that stock and supplies are maintained in sufficient quantity to supply current and estimated needs and to dispose of obsolete stock. Ability to prepare clear, sound accurate and information reports of personnel materials, and supplies, deliveries received and made and other reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations.
