NJ State Payroll Calendar 2026

The State of New Jersey's centralized payroll pays on a two-week cycle, and the Treasury's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) publishes the dates a year at a time. The 2026 schedule lists 27 regular paydays, from Friday, January 2, 2026 to Thursday, December 31, 2026. Of those, 24 fall on a Friday and three on a Thursday.

2026 has 27 paydays where 2025 had 26: the first falls on Friday, January 2, 2026 and the last on Thursday, December 31, 2026, so 27 two-week pay dates land inside one calendar year. The schedule numbers its rows 1 to 27. The supplemental payroll runs 26 times, A through Z, so the last row (December 12 to December 25, 2026) has no supplemental payroll beside it.

Is the 2027 calendar out yet?

Not as of October 13, 2026, when this page last checked. The newest schedule on OMB's payroll page was 2026, and the address OMB uses for each year's schedule returned "not found" for 2027. We do not project 2027 paydays from the two-week rhythm: holiday adjustments move individual dates, and those are the weeks people check. When OMB posts the 2027 schedule, it will be on that page.

How the 2026 pay periods work

Each pay period is 14 days, dates inclusive, running Saturday through Friday. The first period on the 2026 schedule starts in the previous December (December 13, 2025 to December 26, 2025); its payday, January 2, 2026, is the first of the year. In 24 of the 27 periods the payday comes 7 days after the period closes.

Three paydays are moved for a holiday: Thursday, June 18, 2026, Thursday, July 2, 2026 and Thursday, December 31, 2026. OMB marks each with an asterisk, and its footnote reads: "Early cut-off, due date, or pay day attributed to scheduled holiday." Those moves are why a few intervals between paydays are not exactly two weeks: Jun 5 to Jun 18 is 13 days, Jul 2 to Jul 17 is 15 days and Dec 18 to Dec 31 is 13 days.

The supplemental payroll

OMB runs a second payroll on its own schedule, lettered A through Z in 2026, with its own proof deadline and its own payday. In 22 of the 26 cases the supplemental payday is exactly one week after the regular payday for the same pay period. The other four are holiday-related: G (Thursday, April 2, 2026) and Z (Thursday, December 24, 2026) are supplemental paydays the schedule marks as moved for a holiday; M and N fall 8 days after their regular paydays because those regular paydays (Jun 18 and Jul 2) moved for a holiday.

Deadlines for agency payroll offices

The same schedule sets the deadlines State agencies work to before each payday. The PMIS cut-off is tied to the Civil Service Commission; OMB's footnote describes it as "This date is the cut-off date for PMIS actions to be approved by the Civil Service Commission." For the paytime proof deadline the footnote adds: "Non-ECATS agencies due by 2:00pm, ECATS agencies must submit by noon."

For reference, the 2025 schedule had 26 regular paydays, from Friday, January 3, 2025 to Friday, December 19, 2025.

Every date on this page is read from OMB's "Schedule of Pay Periods, Proof Due Dates, Pay Days" for each year, published by Treasury OMB Centralized Payroll on its payroll page. The 2026 document is State of NJ 2026 Payroll Schedule (PDF). We captured it on October 13, 2026 and read it twice, with two independent parsers (one reading the text layout, one reading glyph positions) that must agree on every date. OMB also posts a color-coded month calendar for each year (2026), which shows pay period starts and ends, regular and supplemental paydays and holidays as colors on a month grid; we link to it rather than reproduce it.
