SERGEANT
First supervisory rank in the State Police. A sergeant runs a squad — assigning work, reviewing reports, and answering for what the troopers under them do on a shift.
Promotion is decided inside the Division under its own statutory process, not from a Commission eligible list. Municipal and county police sergeants reach the rank very differently, through promotional examinations that do appear elsewhere in this database.
