PLUMBER AND STEAMFITTER (C14)
Two trades in one title, because in a State institution they are one job. The same tradesperson keeps domestic water and waste running and maintains the steam that heats the building and feeds the kitchen and the laundry, which means welded high-pressure pipe, traps and condensate return alongside fixtures, drains and backflow devices.
New Jersey licenses master plumbers through a State examining board after an apprenticeship and its examination. The fitting side is learned in the trade rather than through a board of its own, though a plant large enough to need someone licensed to operate its boilers is a separate requirement again. The combined title describes a maintenance shop too small to staff the two skills apart.
