Definition

Under supervision of a License Processor 1, or other supervisor in a licensing unit of a state department or agency, performs the routine work involved in the processing of licensing applications, licensing fees, and/or the processing of licensing examination applications; does related work as required.

Examples of work

  • Reviews license applications, responds to complaints or requests for information regarding licensing procedures, prepares reports for the supervisors of the licensing unit, and makes appropriate referrals.
  • As required, refers appropriate applications to investigator staff.
  • Reviews and processes fees.
  • As required, assists members of the general public regarding inquiries concerning licenses.
  • Organizes assigned correspondence, typing, and weekly workflow, and develops effective work methods and procedures.
  • May request background searches required on applications that indicate prior criminal convictions.
  • May arrange examination scheduling.
  • Prepares and tabulates weekly and monthly statistical reports. Performs typing as required.
  • May verify information with other agencies regarding certain eligibility requirements.
  • Processes applications for the issuance of various types of licenses.
  • May assist in the training of clerical employees.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Experience

Two (2) years of experience in the clerical review, analysis, and processing of license applications involving eligibility determinations.

License

Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of modern office methods, practices, routines, machinery, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the internal organization, policies, procedures and regulations after a period of training.
  • Ability to comprehend established department laws, routines and regulations relative to the licensing process administered by the department.
  • Ability to comprehend established division laws, routines and regulations and apply them to specific oases in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Ability to organize assigned clerical typing and supervisory work and develop effective work methods.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with associates, subordinates, superior officials, and those persons interrelated and concerned with the work of the unit.
  • Ability to type accurately and rapidly.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and appropriate business letters in accordance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to use and properly care for office equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to assign and instruct clerical employees and review the performance of all work as required.
  • Ability to maintain and supervise the maintenance of essential records and files.
  • Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
