N.J.S.A. 11A:12-2 Rights of current employees

Those employees with permanent classified status shall obtain permanent status in career service without loss of seniority or pension rights.

Title 11A · Chapter 12. Miscellaneous Provisions

In plain language

A savings provision, twenty words long, and it still matters. When the 1986 act replaced the old system, employees who held permanent classified status carried it over as permanent status in the career service, keeping their seniority and their pension rights. Anyone with continuous service from before September 1986 holds their status through this section rather than through an appointment made under the current title.

Written by the NJ Civil Service Navigator editorial team from the text of this section. The statute itself is below, unabridged.

Current through the close of the 221st Legislature (L. 2025, c. 346). What that means

Enacted by L. 1986, c. 112. Never amended since.

A New Jersey statute changes only when the Legislature amends it, so a section untouched since its last amendment is settled rather than out of date.
