Definition
Under the general supervision of a Supply Support Technician 2 or other supervisor in a state department, institution, or agency, assists with work involved in shipping, receiving, transporting, storage, stock rotation, pulling, checking, loading of trucks for delivery of supplies and materials in warehouse, distribution center, maintenance service area, or other complex installation with similar operations; does related work as required.
Examples of work
- Performs the work involved in shipping, receiving, storage, and inventorying of materials, supplies, and/or equipment in a warehouse, distribution center, maintenance service areas or similar installation.
- Performs perpetual or periodic inventories to ensure and maintain the integrity of stock.
- Under supervision, checks shipments received to ensure goods listed are received in good condition; unpacks contents of shipments; records items received.
- Prepares shipping or receiving reports.
- Assembles and packs requisitioned goods for delivery.
- Stocks shelves and/or racks and maintains in a neat, orderly and safe fashion.
- Loads and unloads supplies from trucks, loading docks, elevators, etc. ensuring their safe handling.
- Under supervision, purge obsolete, unusable excess stock.
- Receives exchangeable and repairable items for disposition.
- May be assigned to operate electric pallet transporter and narrow- aisle forklift.
- Maintains clean, safe, and secure storeroom facilities.
- Maintains records of stock.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
One (1) year of experience in shipping and receiving work in a warehouse, distribution center, maintenance service area or other similar installation.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of work in supply stockroom operations of obtaining, storing, maintaining, and issuing parts, supplies, and equipment. Knowledge of warehouse operations, including procedures, methods, and records control. Knowledge of the procedures and policies of the warehouse/distribution center relating to deliveries and shipments after a period of training. Ability to maintain storage areas in clean, orderly, and safe condition at all times. Ability to arrange stock for efficient handling and safe and secure storage. Ability to stock and issue varied parts used for automobiles, motor trucks, contractors, heavy equipment, electrical contractors' supplies, and maintenance materials. Ability to recommend and request interchangeable parts for use in department equipment. Ability to request an order to replenish stock items by using correct part numbers. Ability to maintain essential records and files. Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
