Definition

Under direction, greets golfers on the golf course; starts groups of players and/or single players on the course; systematically spaces golfers' starting tee times; does other related duties.

Examples of work

  • Greets golfers in a friendly manner when they arrive at the starting tee.
  • Establishes tee times and starts single players and/or various groups of players on the course.
  • Spaces golfers in starting so that they do not interfere with one another in playing course.
  • Informs golfers of proper policies regarding dress code and equipment and enforces regulations.
  • Informs golfers of golf course policies and procedures before starting.
  • Collects receipts to verify payment of appropriate fees.
  • Assists golf ranger in keeping records of member players using courses.
  • Communicates with other golf course staff of any start time delays, updates, etc.
  • Assists in the maintenance of golf facilities.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Possesses general knowledge of the game of golf and its rules.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to perform routine manual operations.
  • Ability to check permits, receipts, or membership cards enabling players to use the course.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and files.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with superiors, and fellow employees.
  • Ability to see that course equipment is not misused, damaged, or stolen.
  • Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
