Definition
Under direction, supervises a group of receptionists engaged in receiving visitors, ascertaining their wants, providing them with information and directing them to the proper persons; does other related duties.
Examples of work
- Supervises reception activities and staff.
- Organizes assigned work from established programs and develops effective work methods.
- Guides, instructs, and assigns duties to staff.
- Participates in and is responsible for the work of staff.
- Prepares work schedules.
- Supervises and performs the more difficult work involved in receiving visitors and ascertaining their wants, providing them with information, and/or directing them to the proper persons.
- May supervise a delegated phase of clerical work, e.g. receiving, sorting and distributing mail within the building.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
Three (3) years of experience in clerical work
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of relevant rules, regulations, policies, programs, functions, layout and personnel of the unit. Knowledge of office methods, practices, and equipment. Ability to meet and act courteously and effectively with people. Ability to give information in person or over the telephone accurately and understandably. Ability to comprehend established office routines, rules, and regulations. Ability to supervise assigned employees. Ability to maintain records and files. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
