• <b>REQUIREMENTS
• EXPERIENCE</b>
• Six years of supervisory experience in planning and directing work programs, using agronomic methods, in order to improve and maintain the turf and playing condition of a regulation 18 hole or larger golf course.
• <b>OR</b>
• Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in turf management, agronomy or horticulture and two years of supervisory experience in planning and directing work programs, using agronomic methods, in order to improve and maintain the turf and playing condition of a regulation 18 hole or larger golf course.

License

Possession of a current and valid certificate as a commercial pesticide applicator or a commercial pesticide operator issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection may be required.

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

<b>KNOWLEDGE</b>

Thorough knowledge of the equipment and methods used in caring for and maintaining golf courses.

Thorough knowledge of varied specialized types of machinery and equipment.

Thorough knowledge of turf management as related to a specific area.

Thorough knowledge of selecting and scheduling the use of fertilizers, lime, insecticides, herbicides and fungicides and of various types of grass species and the type of disease that will attack each kind of grass species.

Thorough knowledge of various types of irrigation systems.

<b>ABILITIES</b>

Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Communication may include such forms as American Sign Language or braille.

Ability to give suitable assignments and instruction to employees and to provide technical advice and direction when difficult and unusual problems arise.

Ability to establish training program that ensures effective performance of employees and to see that reasonable standards of workmanship and output are maintained and that desired objectives are achieved.

Ability to work harmoniously with associates, citizens and others using the golf courses.

Ability to supervise and work with supervisors and others involved with golf course maintenance.

Ability to prepare suitable reports and keep necessary records and files.

Ability to recognize various grass diseases and to prescribe the proper treatment.
