Definition

Under direction, functions as the chief operations officer at a Solid Waste Reclamation Center, by organizing, supervising, directing and controlling the various maintenance, administrative and mechanical repair tasks performed; does related work as required.

Examples of work

• Analyzes work to be accomplished and establishes procedures for its accomplishment.
• Establishes preventive maintenance schedules for center equipment in order to reduce undue wear.
• Assigns personnel to various maintenance, operating and cleaning functions; gives suitable instructions for carrying out assigned tasks and checks their work to insure compliance with desired standards of workmanship.
• Supervises and works with staff engaged in repairing and maintaining functional parts and the mechanical equipment at the Reclamation Center.
• Determines supplies and materials needed and submits specifications to purchasing office for procurement.
• Recommends to appointing authority personnel actions such as hiring, transfers and disciplinary actions of employees under his supervision.
• Determines and supervises structural modifications and improvements to center facilities and equipment.
• Maintains records concerning the center`s operations, problems and corrective actions taken.
• Supervises the staff in "clean-up" operation to insure that sanitary standards are met.
• Observes various temperature and pressure gauges to determine if machines are operating correctly.
• When malfunction occur, analyzes situation, diagnoses problems and takes proper action to see that needed repairs are made with a minimum delay.
• <b>REQUIREMENTS
• EXPERIENCE</b>
• Five years of experience involved with the repair, assembly and maintenance of a large scale industrial equipment and machines, two of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
• <b>KNOWLEDGE</b>
• Considerable knowledge of the mechanical functioning of large scale equipment
• Of methods and procedures utilized in repairing and maintaining large scale equipment and plant facilities.
• <b>ABILITY</b>
• To read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
• To diagnose mechanical problems.
• To establish work schedules.
• To give direction and guidance to subordinate staff.
• To work harmoniously with the public and staff.
• Good health and freedom from disabling physical and mental defects which would impair the proper performance of the required duties or which might endanger the health and safety of oneself or others.
