Definition

An Instructor of Inservice Nursing is a registered professional nurse who, under direction, is responsible for the theoretical and clinical inservice training of professional and nonprofessional nursing personnel; does other related duties as required.

Examples of work

  • Under direction, develops objectives and teaching schedules for assigned courses in accord with principles as contained in the New Jersey Nurse Practice Art.
  • Prepares classroom lectures for theoretical classes.
  • Prepares organization of instruction for clinical classes.
  • Attends conferences to coordinate and integrate teaching of assigned courses with basic organization as developed by supervisors.
  • Selects, ascertains, and prepares requisitions for provision of books, teaching aids, facilities, materials, and supplies for proper teaching of assigned courses.
  • Maintains a dignified, professional approach to the nursing profession and to teaching.
  • Maintains a close association to students, and evaluates their progress in classes and their development of proper attitudes.
  • Performs orientation of all new personnel to hospital routines and basic procedures.
  • Conducts training programs for hospital attendants, nurses aides, and practical nurses.
  • Prepares clear, sound, and accurate reports containing recommendations and findings.
  • Maintains records and files.
  • Maintains a dignified, professional attitude in the association with students, faculty, and supervisors.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Education

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Nursing Education.

Experience

One (1) year of experience as a registered professional nurse.

License

Applicants must possess a current and valid Professional Nurse license (RN) in the State of New Jersey.

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

  • Knowledge of problems involved in giving assignments and instructions to individuals and groups.
  • Knowledge of methods used in maintaining discipline.
  • Knowledge of methods used in preparing reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Knowledge of the establishment and maintenance of records and files.
  • Ability to analyze, comprehend, and interpret rules and regulations.
  • Ability to comprehend and utilize principles and approved procedures and techniques of nursing.
  • Ability to organize assigned administrative work and develop effective work methods.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with associates.
  • Ability to give assignments and instructions to employees, and to provide them with advice and assistance when difficult and unusual problems arise.
  • Ability to check employees' work to see that proper procedures are followed, that reasonable standards of workmanship and output are maintained, and that desired objectives are achieved.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships among assigned students.
  • Ability to use tact and impartiality in dealing with students.
