Definition
Under direction, assists in carrying out a program of orderly removal of tenants from sites and relocating them in suitable rental quarters and/or assists in collecting/preparing statistical and other data for redevelopment programs; does other related duties as required.
Examples of work
- Interviews persons who are being forced to move to obtain information needed to assist them to find new or temporary living quarters including data concerning size of the family and actual/potential financial and other resources which may be utilized for this purpose.
- Contacts social agencies to expedite relocation of families.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with real estate agents, landlords, and business, civic, welfare, educational, fraternal, and church groups/organizations which may be helpful in finding living quarters.
- Makes field visits to banks, business offices, employers, and other persons to obtain/verify factual data concerning financial and other resources, employment histories, credit ratings, and other needed information.
- Collects and prepares statistical and other data pertaining to real estate acquisition, ownership-assessed, and valuation- estimated costs.
- May assist in the coordination of statistical information.
- May perform routine work involved in review of appraisals of property and compares appraisal reports with assessed values of property.
- Secures information in reference to redevelopment, collates same, and discusses with superior for final report.
- Prepares reports.
- Maintains records and files.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
Two (2) years of experience in field investigations which shall have included gathering significant data and compiling of data into meaningful reports.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of procedures and problems involved in removal of tenants from sites and relocating them in suitable rental quarters.
- Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
- Knowledge of methods used in collecting/preparing statistical and other data.
- Knowledge of methods used in preparing reports.
- Knowledge of methods used in maintaining records and files.
- Ability to use tact and courtesy.
- Ability to observe significant conditions.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
