CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE SUPREME COURT (Code 78510)
The Chief Justice presides over the Supreme Court and heads the entire New Jersey judiciary, with administrative authority over every court in the State. Assignment judges answer to that office, and the Administrative Director of the Courts serves at its pleasure.
Nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate, for an initial seven-year term and then tenure to age seventy. The office is constitutional; nothing about it is examined.
