Definition

Under direction performs a variety of responsible assignments and/or takes the lead in work involved with receiving, issuing, inspecting, and storing motion pictures films, tapes, slides, and other audiovisual aids; may set up and operate video and motion picture projecting, and other audio or optical equipment; transports audiovisual aids and equipment; maintains records and files; does other related duties as required.

Examples of work

  • Performs varied responsible assignments and/or takes the lead in a unit involved in issuing, checking, storing, conditioning, and collecting audiovisual aid materials such as tapes, cassettes, videodiscs, picture slides, and motion picture films.
  • Gives instructions and guidance to assigned personnel.
  • Weeds from collection worn, obsolete, or unpopular aids.
  • Makes recommendations for adding items to the collection based on comments and requests from patrons.
  • Receives, inspects, issues, and stores a variety of visual and audio materials used for instruction, information, and entertainment.
  • Picks and delivers audiovisual aids or makes arrangements for shipments.
  • Tags items and stores them in appropriate containers, bins, and shelves.
  • Takes precautions to prevent damage and theft.
  • Receives requisitions, checks deliveries, and fills orders.
  • Makes reservations for items already on loan.
  • Inventories stock.
  • Maintains records and files.
  • Operates high-speed film flaw detector or other optical inspection equipment.
  • Cleans, splices, and tags films/tapes.
  • May set up and operate slide projectors, movie projectors, video, audio tape, turntable, and audio amplifying equipment.
  • May assist in positioning, installing, and connecting equipment such projectors and lights.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Experience

One (1) year of experience in receiving, issuing, and storing various articles, materials, and supplies.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of problems, procedures, and methods involved in checking delivery sheets for incoming audiovisual aids materials to see that specified items are received and in good condition.
  • Knowledge of practices and precautions in circulating and storing audiovisual aid materials.
  • Knowledge of clerical methods.
  • Knowledge of the operation of standard movie projectors and related optical equipment and of the operation of video, audio tape, and turntable equipment.
  • Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others.
  • Ability to set up and operate projectors or video apparatus.
  • Ability to load and unload supplies and transport them to designated locations.
  • Ability to take a leading part in working out internal organization and operation procedures having to do with audiovisual aids.
  • Ability to deal firmly and effectively with varied types of people and give them clear, accurate, and informative directions such as for equipment operation.
  • Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
