Definition
Under the direction of an administrative or executive official in a state department, agency, or institution, ensures the security, privacy, and regulatory compliance of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, applications, and data within the organization; designs and develops security protocols to protect AI systems from potential threats, cyberattacks, and data breaches; implements measures to safeguard sensitive and personal data used in AI applications; conducts risk assessments and security audits; responds to security alerts; performs other related duties as required.
Examples of work
Conducts risk assessments and security audits for AI systems and applications to identify potential vulnerabilities and weaknesses; performs regular security testing, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing. Monitors AI systems and applications for potential security incidents, intrusions, or unauthorized access attempts; responds promptly to security alerts and takes appropriate action to mitigate threats. Develops and implements security policies, procedures, and guidelines specific to AI technologies; ensures these policies align with industry best practices and compliance requirements. Ensures that AI projects handle data in compliance with relevant data protection laws (e.g., General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), New Jersey Data Protection Act (NJDPA), etc.); implements measures to safeguard sensitive and personal data used in AI applications. Stays current and informed about relevant regulations and standards pertaining to AI, cybersecurity, and data privacy; ensures AI projects and systems comply with these regulations. Manages access control mechanisms for AI systems, limiting access to authorized personnel only and implementing multi-factor authentication when necessary. Implements encryption protocols and secure data transmission methods to protect data integrity and confidentiality. Develops and maintains incident response plans for AI systems; coordinates and leads incident response efforts in the event of a security breach or data compromise. Designs and conducts security awareness training for AI developers, data scientists, and other relevant stakeholders to educate them about security best practices and the importance of maintaining security standards. Maintains detailed records of security measures, assessments, and incidents; prepares security reports for management and relevant stakeholders. Collaborates with IT and AI development teams to ensure that security measures are integrated into the AI development life cycle. Assesses the security posture of third-party vendors providing AI-related services or tools and ensures that vendors meet security and compliance requirements. Continuously evaluates and improves AI security measures in response to evolving threats and advancements in cybersecurity. Ensures AI projects align with ethical principles and do not violate any legal or ethical guidelines. Prepares reports and documentation for regulatory authorities as needed for AI security and compliance matters. Will be required to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Education
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, robotics engineering, data science, computer engineering, software engineering, information technology, or a related field.
Experience
Six (6) years of experience in cybersecurity, data protection, risk management, artificial intelligence security, and/or artificial intelligence compliance.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies. Knowledge of AI technologies such as machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, expert systems, etc. Knowledge of AI platforms such as GPT-3, PyTorch, TensorFlow, SageMaker, etc. Knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations affecting AI, including data protection laws. Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for AI security and compliance. Ability to maintain documentation for compliance and risk management processes. Ability to analyze information. Ability to conduct risk assessments and security audits for AI systems and applications. Ability to take appropriate action to mitigate security threats. Ability to design and conduct security awareness training. Ability to develop effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
