Definition

Under general supervision of the Deputy Director, Counsel or other supervisory Commission staff, performs the work involving the analysis of information related to complex investigations. Assist in preparing recommendations for subsequent investigative activities. Review and analyze current and historical organized crime intelligence information. Utilize investigative work plans to support investigative teams.

Examples of work

  • Provide analytical planning and support to investigative teams.
  • Organize and analyze evidential material as required and report on the findings with recommendations for subsequent action. Develop analytical and investigative databases to support the Commission's investigations.
  • Develop inferences and investigative strategies based upon review of testimony, investigative reports and various analytical resources.
  • Assist counsel in preparing areas of questioning/exhibits for witnesses subpoenaed to testify before the Commission.
  • Develops collection plans and/or investigative plans to assist Counsel in investigations.
  • Prepare graphs, charts (link analysis, event flow analysis, activity charting), tables and other illustrative devices for visual presentations of data.
  • Coordinate all intelligence for multi-state investigations, analyzes, summarizes and disseminates same for the purpose of effective communication among several law enforcement agencies.
  • Coordinate and obtain information from Verizon or other telephone companies requested by the Commission and other law enforcement agencies throughout the country.
  • Maintain close liaison with other law enforcement agencies in order to continue intelligence networks.

Education

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

Experience

Two (2) years experience involving the review, organization, analysis and evaluation of criminal investigative and intelligence information.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Based upon the analysis of various sources of information, assist in initiating investigations or identifying recommendations consistent with the statutory mandates of the Commission.
  • Assist in carrying out assigned investigations, surveys, studies, and research activities, and report thereon.
  • Knowledge of Commission policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the relationship among federal, state and local governments.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply basic laws/regulations.
  • Ability to appropriately and effectively communicate with federal, state and local agencies.
  • Ability to prepare statistical and financial data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, informative reports on analysis conducted.
  • Ability to maintain records and files.
  • Ability effectively utilize a personal computer and knowledge of appropriate software packages.
  • Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual information recording and systems used by the Commission.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
