Definition
Appointed by the Governor; with the advice and approval of the Senate; and under the direction of the Chairman, Casino Control Commission, Department of the Treasury, hears applications for licenses, permits, certificates, etc; approves or disapproves the aforementioned; promulgates new regulations as they prove necessary, heard complaints; does related work as necessary.
Examples of work
- As a member of the Commission, hears and decides promptly and in a reasonable order all license, certificate and permit applications and causes affecting the granting, suspension, revocation or renewal of them.
- With the rest of the Commission, conducts all of the hearings pertaining to civil violations of the Casino Control Act and regulations promulgated under it.
- As a member of the Commission, works with it to promulgate such regulations as in the judgment of the Commission may be necessary to fulfill the policies of the Casino Control Act.
- As a member of the Commission, works with them levying and collecting penalties for the violation of provisions of the Casino Control Act and the regulations promulgated under it.
- Through the inspectors and agents of the Commission is present at all times during the operation of any casino for the purpose of certifying the revenue thereof, receiving complaints from the public, and conducting such other investigations into the conduct of the games and the maintenance of the equipment as from time to time may deem necessary and proper.
- As a member of the Commission, participates in reviewing and ruling upon any complain by a casino license regarding any investigative procedure of the Division of Gaming Enforcement which are unnecessarily disruptive of casino operations.
- Supervises the work operations and/or functional programs and has responsibility for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting, and/or disciplining of employees.
Requirements
Each appointee shall be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of New Jersey and may not be a member of the Legislature or holder of any other elected or appointed office in the Federal, State, or local government.
This is a Statutory Gubernatorial Appointment with the advice and content of the Senate with the initial appointment to the Commission shall be for the terms as follows:
1. One member for 1 year 2. One member for 2 years 3. One member for 3 years 4. One member for 4 years 5. One member for 5 years
After the initial appointment, all members shall be appointed for terms of five years provided; however, that no member shall serve more than two terms of five years each.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
Persons with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long as they can perform the essential functions of the job after reasonable accommodation is maker to their known limitations. If the accommodation cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, such persons may not be eligible.
$18,000 per annum plus reimbursement for expenses actually and necessarily incurred in the performance of duties, including travel outside of the State; part-time position.
