Examples of work
- Distributes and balances the workload among employees according to established work flow or job specialization.
- Observes the status and progress of the work and makes adjustments according to established priorities.

- Climbs poles or rides in bucket attached to truck-mounted boom to remove broken or defective wires.
- Secures new wires to crossarm insulators and splices wire to adjoining sections of line to complete circuit.
- Transfers wires from defective poles to newly erected poles.
- Installs pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as crossarms, transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators.
- Verifies that lines have been repaired by using testing instruments such as voltmeter and ammeter.
- Trims trees when necessary to perform linework.
- Maintains essential records and files.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Experience
Two (2) years of experience in installation and maintenance of power lines, equipment and structures energized at a similar voltage level as operated by the appointing authority.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, and practices in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical lines and equipment.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in working with electrical lines and equipment.
- Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions.
- Ability to care for equipment and materials.
- Ability to observe accepted safety practices in performing the work.
- Ability to make emergency repairs to electrical lines under adverse conditions.
- Ability to maintain essential records and files.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
