Definition

Under direction, supervises and performs the work involved in the operation of a variety of miscellaneous office machines; does related work.

Examples of work

  • Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites the workflow of the unit.
  • Provides written and oral instruction to subordinates.
  • Assigns duties and examines completed work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
  • Supervises and performs work involved in operating, cleaning, adjusting, oiling and performing minor repairs to a variety of office machines.
  • May hire, train, and discharge workers.
  • Prepares correspondence and maintains records of a confidential nature.
  • Prepares reports.
  • Interprets and explains organization rules, regulations, policies, and procedures through correspondence, personal interviews, and telephone conversations.
  • Reviews, checks, and certifies reports, applications, and other documents for correctness.
  • Interviews and transacts business with persons who may call at the office; assists in the planning and revision of clerical procedures and office routines.
  • Receives, reviews, and adjusts complaints.
  • Compiles data for budgets and reports.
  • Conducts special studies of certain operations and reports findings.
  • Relieves the supervisory officer of office details.
  • Maintains, classifies, indexes, and cross references records and files.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Experience

Three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a variety of imprinting, duplicating, reproducing, and/or other types of office machines.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of the operation, adjustment, and care of a variety of duplicating, reproducing, imprinting and other office machines.
  • Knowledge of office methods, practices, and equipment.
  • Ability to set up, operate and adjust a variety of office machines with speed and accuracy to produce acceptable products.
  • Ability to diagnose, solve, correct operating problems affecting the quality and timeliness of the service or product.
  • Ability to provide minor repairs and adjustments to the machines operated.
  • Ability to comprehend established office routines and rules and regulations.
  • Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.
  • Ability to provide assignments, training and instructions to staff and to evaluate their work performance.
  • Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
